Finishing the Job
The Dirty Work of Installing a Fountain
You will have to dig an area in your yard for your fountain, the pump box, and the lines for the electrical and water. Find a place in the yard where you can enjoy the fountain and then mark off the area where you are going to dig. Be sure that you dig the water line trench deep enough to prevent it from freezing or you could run into problems during the cold, winter months.
Now you are ready to install your fountain. Follow the directions carefully and in just a while, you will be enjoying the fruit of your labor.
Dress It Up
Now is the time for you to dress up your fountain area. A fountain’s beauty will only be increased by adding beautiful rocks and plants to the area. To help enhance this focal point of your yard you will want to choose rocks to surround your fountain. This not only lends beauty, but it also helps to keep the fountain area segregated from the rest of the yard. Adding plants around your fountain will help to enhance this part of your yard and is just as important as the installation of the fountain.
You first need to determine whether this is a shaded area or a sunny area. This is important to help you find the right plants for this area. Your main goal around your fountain is not necessarily color, it is texture. You don’t want the plants to take away focus from all of the hard work that you put in on the fountain, do you?
- Ornamental grasses and ferns are a great way to add texture to your fountain garden. Hostas are another great way to add texture. These are all different textures, so mixing and matching textures can help draw the eye to your fountain and garden.
- Herbs are great for adding texture as well. They also have the added benefit of you being able to use them while cooking and their smell that they add to the fountain garden.
- Choose your plants based on whether your area is shady or sunny or you may find that all of your plants die. This is a huge waste of money and time, when all it takes is planning to find the right plants for your particular area. If you are unsure, ask the sales associates at your local garden shop.
