Water Lily Pools

A Beautiful Accent to Any Garden

Water Lily Pools Add Beauty to Any Garden.Building Water Lily Pools

If you want to landscape your garden or outdoor area, then nothing is better than a water lily pool. In good conditions such as summertime, you can set up a pool within four to six weeks. The water lily pool will beautify your garden while your new plants and shrubs take hold.

Your Water Lily Garden

Whatever your garden size and type, there is sure to be a water lily pool that will fit. Pools can be of remarkably different sizes and shapes, ranging from massive farm ponds to small ponds the size of a living-room rug. If you are setting up a water lily pool in a new garden, you can make it the focal point of your garden's design. Additionally, creating a pool in an existing garden will also bring new life to your outdoor area.

You might think that water lily gardening is something that can only be carried out by the rich. If you want to spend a lot you can, but water gardening can also be relatively inexpensive. Also, once you have set up your water lily garden it will require virtually no maintenance. Water lilies will thrive with little work on your part while adding a serene picture of beauty to behold every day.

Types of Lilies

Although there are many different examples of water lilies, there are in fact only two main types of water lilies -- the Tropicals and the Hardies. These two plants are related but no-one has yet been able to cross-breed them.

Hardy water lilies are perennials that can propagate themselves without any help from the gardener. Once you plant them, they will continue to thrive for years. Hardies range in size from just a few centimeters in diameter all the way up to more than a foot wide. These fragrant flowers come in all shades of color except blue. The Hardy flowers open from forenoon to late afternoon from May until the frost begins.

Tropicals, on the other hand, are generally annual plants. They are larger than Hardies and require more pool space; however, their blooms last longer from midsummer to winter. Tropicals also come in many colors, although yellow is rare.

The Tropicals come in two varieties -- night and day bloomers. As the name suggests, day blooming flowers open from forenoon to late afternoon. The night bloomers open from evening until the next morning.
