Campania International’s Patinas for Cast Stone

Campania's Cast Stone Collections are exceptional pieces of garden sculpture. Master artists work to create each of the designs. The process is detail oriented, from designing to molding to refining the cast stone mix. Campania's Team has perfected each step of the creation process. The final step is the application of the color or patina. These patinas are hand-applied stains, giving your piece a personal touch. The result is a hand-made statue, fountain, planter, bench, or birdbath just for you. These patinas are available in an excellent spectrum of choices inspired by natural colors. There are fourteen color choices.

The Cool Grays:

The family of gray colors includes the Natural, Alpine Stone, Greystone, and Nero Nuovo. These cooler colors play nicely in the garden and work well with plants and hardscapes. The Alpine Stone is the darkest of the grays, with a slight undertone of green. This color highlights the details of cast stone pieces as the darker color will settle into the valleys of a cast stone piece. Greystone is the classic garden gray, a favorite, simple choice. Greystone's soft light color works well with existing hardscapes. The Nero Nuovo is a deep black, bringing a dramatic tone to any landscape setting. The Nero Nuovo is a great color choice for fountains as the color comes to life in the water.

The Warm Browns:

The warmer colors of the Campania Patina collection are used in the landscape to complement the current hardscape or contrast with the surrounding flora. The Aged Limestone, a long-time classic, is brown with yellow, orange, green, and gray or white undertones. The result is a soft aged old-stone look. The Brownstone brings warmth to the garden with a medium brown base and an undertone of reds and oranges. The variations of color in the Brownstone make it an ideal color for animal statues. The darkest of the browns is Pietra Nuova. This deep rich brown looks stunning in planters, birdbaths, and fountains. The pieces stained in the Pietra Nuova always make an eye-catching focal point in the landscape. For a soft, warm color, the Travertine offers a light-yellow base with added oranges for depth.

The Garden Greens:

The spectrum of green stains in the Campania collection is a fun way to bring color while keeping with the aesthetics of the surrounding garden. The lightest is the Verde, a soft gray-green. The Verde soft hue is ideal for planters, birdbaths, and benches, any piece that needs to blend into the garden and highlight its surroundings. The English Moss is a great garden green, perfect for frog statues and fountains. The English Moss patina adds interest to the cast stone piece and works wherever placed in the landscape. The fun Copper Bronze is a beautiful color to add flare to the garden setting. Copper Bronze has a base of green with an undertone of oranges and browns, intended to resemble the look of aged copper.

The Bright and Bold:

Campania offers bright and bold colors in the Lead Antique, Ferro Rustico Nuovo, and French Limestone for added interest in the landscape. The Lead Antique is a deep rich blue-gray with a green over-wash. This dramatic color works well on any piece that needs to be a point of interest in the landscape. The Ferro Rustico Nuovo evokes the look of old Mediterranean tiles on the rooftops in Greece. Whatever piece this color is on will set the tone for the landscape as an enjoyable space. The French Limestone, one of the newer colors in the collection, is a soft creamy white. This light color pops in contrast against plant material and works well with hardscapes. It is ideal for planters, fountains, benches, and birdbaths.

The Character of Patina and Color Variance

Each color has personality and character, made to blend into your environment. Over time, when placed in the full sun, they will age and become lighter, and depending on the placement, some patinas can get darker as they age. Lighter patinas can get a dark mossy look. There is always a range of depth in the darkness or lightness of the color once it is applied. It is very subtle, and the color swatches help to visualize that range. The Color Variance ranges from lighter to darker and is based on the type of cast stone piece and the artist applying the color.

Color Variance

Pieces with a lot of detail, like Cooper Dog Statue, do well with a mid-range color like Brownstone or Alpine Stone, showing off all the fur and facial character tufts. In contrast, darker colors like Pietra Nuovo do well with smoother pieces such as Planters or Urns.

When you select your Campania piece, you buy a sculpture made by a talented artist. Each piece is unique, and its journey to your home is just the start of its story.
