Queen Christina of Sweden and the Trinia de Monti Fountain

trinita-dei-monti-graphic-4-large.jpgThere are many, many odd facts about Christina that would entertain readers as she started this religious zeal. One story though, is quite amusing. The Queen promised the French sculptor, Charles Errard that she would knock upon his door at a certain time.

The problem was that during this arranged time for the visit, the Queen was actually still at the Castel Saint Angelo, where she had to excuse herself from her company and leave for a minute. The story goes, since of course they did not have cell phones that she instead went to a canon, and set it off to the other side of Rome.

The ball then flew high over the sky, sticking to its path, until it crashed into the door of the Medici Villa. Enthusiasts suggest you can still see the dent in the door today. Therefore this ball was a miracle, and was pierced and placed on a spout, and placed in the middle of the marble basin as the fountain spout. Therefore, you have the story of the magical little ball, as well as the creation of the fountain, which considered a symbolic feature of Rome!
